ATOPIC ECZEMA:

If you are a teenager or adult then it is important to firstly verify if your eczema started as a baby or small child. If so then first clarify your cause and then return to this page.

This is the most common form of eczema's. The primary cause of this eczema is due to an imbalance of beneficial colon bacteria or flora , resulting in the inability to correctly digest certain proteins and enzymes causing in an allergic or intolerant reaction in the colon.
Once they have entered the blood stream, the immune system attacks these antigens and are then agglutinated for disposal. This is a common occurrence and is usually excreted by bile and urine. In patients with very high levels, these antigens also find escape routes via the skin (eczema)and lungs (asthma).
This eczema can usually start as a baby and remains untreated for years. Other factors and triggers that can disturb the balance of colon flora are:

Other Triggers are :

Classic symptoms are :
    Bloatedness
    Diahorrea, Constipation or both
    Colon or bowl disorders
    Poor digestion
    Poor diet
    Overweight
    High levels of indols

Treatment Options depending on the severity:

Mild eczema

(one or two small patches)
Introduce a Probiotic. Ones that come in pill form are useless and not recommended. The best forms are natural for example Kefir or fermented sauerkraut. Use a non petrochemical based emollient to help with the dry and itchy skin.
Only wash with a natural soap that has no chemical or perfume additives for example the Dermaphend Liquid Soap (other soaps will further irritate the skin)
Patients who are on high blood pressure medication should consult their physician to determine if a "rash" is a side effect and if so arrange to have it substituted

Moderate eczema

(larger patches)
Introduce a Probiotic. Ones that come in pill form are useless and not recommended. The best forms are natural for example Kefir or fermented sauerkraut. Use a non petrochemical based emollient to help with the dry and itchy skin.
Only wash with a natural soap that has no chemical or perfume additives for example the Dermaphend Liquid Soap (other soaps will further irritate the skin)
Patients who are on high blood pressure medication should consult their physician to determine if a "rash" is a side effect and if so arrange to have it substituted
Eliminate known allergen causing foods like dairy, wheat and gluten.
Start a course of Omega 3 derived from fish or even a good quality Cod Liver oil

Severe eczema

(large patches all over)
Introduce a Probiotic.
Start on the Dermaphend Antigen Reduction Diet that we freely provide.

Dietary Changes
Include more fish and olive oil in your diet and reduce the amounts of fried food, red meat, full cream dairy products and sunflower oil. Increase the amount of fresh fruit and raw vegetables.

Supplements:
Supplement with Omega-3 and GLA (gamma lipoic acid).
The only Omega-3 we recommend is one derived from fish.
Cod liver oil is also an excellent choice.

FOOD ALLERGIES:

You may not know it but you may have developed an allergy to a certain food, and is one the most common causes of eczema.

The normal process of removing toxins is through your bile, urine and lungs. If your system cannot remove toxins fast enough it will use the skin. By continually eating these "toxic" food items you accumulate too many allergens in the body. The body cannot remove these allergens fast enough and they can eventually settle in the skins substructure. This then triggers the antibodies in the skin to release large amounts of histamine, which causes the itching and inflammation. The standard medical approach is to prescribe cortisone.

The most common food allergens are dairy products such as milk, cheese, or anything that contains the milk protein as well as wheat and gluten. But there could be many more.

Effective Treatment:
Many eczema patients mistakenly believe that they are not allergic to these foods and additives, and the reason is always the same: Their condition is already so bad, that if they do eat one of these foods, they don't notice the difference. Disregarding food allergies can cost the eczema sufferer an opportunity to be cured.

Intestinal Problems including the bowel and colon

Eating the incorrect diet, medication (including antibiotics, steroids, birth control pills anti-ulcer and cortisone), laxatives and stress leads to the depletion of beneficial bacteria and enzymes in the intestines that facilitate in the normal function of removing waste and toxins on a daily basis. This is normally associated with intervals of constipation. Laxatives then exacerbates this condition and then the constipation cycle repeats itself. This cycle leads to the bodies inability to remove toxins fast enough. It can further lead to Diverticulosis, Irritable Bowel syndrome (IBS) , Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), Ulcerative colitis, Yeast infection of the colon and Leaky Gut Syndrome (LGS) all of which weakens the membrane of the intestinal tract allowing particles to enter directly into the blood stream.

The function of the colon is to only allow proteins, enzymes and nutrients that the body requires, to pass through it's membrane. If the colon lining is breached no matter how small, toxins, waste and allergens enter the system unnaturally. This has a profound effect on the nervous and immune system.

STRESS AND ECZEMA:

Stress is never a "cause of eczema" but rather a trigger. Stress can be classified into two types, good and bad.
Good stress is the sort of stress that exhilarates and excites you. The type of stress that makes you want to get up in the morning and challenge the day.

Bad stress is never good. This type of stress is normally brought on by death, divorce, moving, financial worries or retrenchment. The type of curve balls that life throws at us that we could honestly do without, unfortunately that's life. Your ability to handle stress varies with each individual and as each persons pain threshold varies so does their ability to handle stress.

If stress continues over long periods a hormonal imbalance can occur leading to depression hence suicides. (This can be overcome with high doses of Omega 3, which will balance the ratio of AA/EPA in the brain). It's not as simple as that as stress also leads to poor dietary habits which result in a total breakdown of intestinal flora causing constipation or even severe colon disorders like Colitis, IBS and LGS. Colon disorders are normally the primary cause of eczema.

RESPIRATORY OR LUNG DISORDERS:

Asthma
Bronchitis
Hay fever
Emphysema

You may think that your skin is the only protection you have from the outside world. But you also have an internal "skin" that is in constant contact with your surrounding environment. Just think of your lungs. Every time you inhale oxygen, you suck in whatever pollutants and potential allergens are floating in the air surrounding you. I consider your lungs to be a part of your internal skin because they're barriers against toxic agents that assault your body. These barriers can be subject to the same inflammatory insults as your skin. Three distinct lung conditions all stem from inflammation: asthma, bronchitis and emphysema. Together they are known as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Asthma attacks can be triggered by a number of offenders including pollen, molds, fur almost anything, and can vary from person to person, but the lungs respond in a universal way. They overproduce a pro-inflammatory hormone called a leukotriene. As with bronchitis an inflammatory condition of the lungs and over production of leukotrienes.

These conditions are treated with the use of steroids, corticosteroids and anti-biotic's for secondary infections. (See article of the side affects of cortisone).

Treatment Options:
Respiratory conditions are always associated with inflammation. This condition is extremely difficult to eliminate conventionally and medicines only allow you to control the effects. As you cannot filter out all the foreign particles you breath, you can drastically reduce the molecular mechanism that is causing the inflammation - the over production of of leukotrines, which runs rampant when there are high levels of arachidonic acid present.

The key question to ask why is my immune system so sensitive to the allergens that I am breathing in. There are numerous things you can do to reduce the frequency of attacks if not stop it all together. The carry on effect will also be a reduction and total remission of the eczema
